Kim Campbell

Kim Campbell

Founder & Executive Director

Kim J. Campbell founded the Dallas Winds with the late Howard Dunn in 1985, and is the organization’s Executive Director. Mr. Campbell has served as the Associate Producer of 22 albums with the Dallas Winds for the Reference RecordingsKlavier RecordsCrystal Records and Widget Records labels. At Southern Methodist University, Kim was the General Manager of The McFarlin Memorial Auditorium for four seasons and Facilities Manager at the Meadows School of the Arts from 1986 to 1993.

During eighteen years as a professional trombonist, Kim was a regular member of symphony, ballet and opera orchestras in Dallas, Fort Worth and Mexico City.

As a freelance musician he performed with numerous artists in a wide variety of ensembles while touring throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Mexico.

Kim majored in music performance at North Texas State University and maintained a private music studio in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for seven years teaching trombone, euphonium and tuba.

A native Texan, Kim was born in Houston, grew up in Amarillo then moved to the North Texas area to become a professional college student. He’s worn many hats including those of a music instructor, stage manager, bartender, freelance trombonist, machinist (where he helped build the Stealth bomber…. shhh!) and auditorium manager. A career raising circus tents lasted one day. In another life, Mr. Campbell toured with The O’Jays, Barry White, Donna Summer and several other acts that are better left unmentioned.

Idle moments find Kim walking around White Rock Lake, puttering in his garden or tending his colony of beloved honey bees. He shares an East Dallas cottage with his spouse, arts manager extraordinaire LeAnn Binford.

Kim currently answers to seven cats…. Tootsie, Sugarpuss, Lindbergh, Jetta, Boomerang and Wiggles at home and the Dallas Winds’ faithful office cat, Mr. Widget.
